About SLAWS
The Sierra Leone Animal Welfare Society (SLAWS) is a Sierra Leonean non-profit organization based in Freetown Sierra Leone and founded by Dr. Abdul Gudush Jalloh in March 1988. It is registered with the Sierra Leone Ministry of Development and Economic Planning.
The main objectives of SLAWS are to protect the welfare of animals, domesticated and wild from all forms of cruelty and promote kindness to them. Our mission is to advocate for the protection and promotion of animal welfare and the right of animals to live in a safe environment in the home and in the wild.
Our specific objectives are:
Our activities include:
(1) Stray dogs and rabies control programmes,
(2) Vaccination of pets,
(3) Offering free spaying and neutering clinics
(4) Public education including the formation and coordination of School Kindness Clubs.
Our organization is a member of WSPA and affiliated with the Royal Society for the prevention of Cruelty to Animals (RSPCA).
Our organization owns a veterinary mobile clinic donated to us by the World Society for the Protection of Animals (WSPA.)

- To reduce the number of incidents of dog bites and rabies
- To restore responsible pet ownership
- To vaccinate all owned pets, treat them for ticks, fleas and worms,
- To register all pets and provide means of identification
- To conduct humane education programmes for livestock and pet owners and implementing partners of livestock programs
